Below is the scope of work for Research Instructors who agree to build and teach guided research programs.
Resource Curation: Assemble and share a curated list of academic papers or essential technical skills that students can explore and develop throughout the research program. NextStage will help with this process to facilitate the most convenient onboarding possible.
Course Design & Delivery: Design and deliver an ~11-hour course focused on instructors' field of interest, which will be taught 1-2 hours per week remotely.
Skill Development: Teach students how to refine their writing, citation, and research techniques over the course of this research program.
Personalized Support: Provide ongoing feedback and individualized mentorship throughout the program to help students enhance their research capabilities and academic skill set.

NextStage focuses on developing high school students as researchers. The quality is often remarkable for their age group. Our Co-Founder, Clarence, published five research papers in high school, one of which was published in SSRN and made their top 10 list. Publishing and acknowledgment is aspirational but not expected for our students.
We maintain a very rigorous application process for vetting NextStage students. When students apply to join our Research Programs, NextStage interviews them and reviews their resumes, transcripts, prior research, academic achievements, interests, and real motivations for participating in the program. We go out of our way to weed out students who say they’re interested but lack discipline and don’t actually want to do the work.
If Instructors are interested in developing kind, well-mannered, enthusiastic students from all over the world… Meaning Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand, and more, who are interested in learning more about their subject and following their footsteps as a researcher, this is exactly where they need need to be, and NextStage is looking to hire.

All current high school or college students in accredited academic institutions are eligible to apply for research opportunities.

Once enrolled, students will be paired with an expert research instructor who will guide them through the program. Each week, you'll be assigned readings and research questions to explore, with essays to write and submit. You'll have regular one-on-one meetings with your instructor to discuss the material, ask questions, and receive feedback on your work. As you progress, you'll work on a capstone research project, which culminates in a 5,000-word research paper. Throughout the program, your instructor will provide tailored feedback and support, ensuring you develop both your research and critical thinking skills.

On average, students who participate in guided research programs with NextStage should expect to dedicate 6–10 hours per week to the program. This includes time for reading assigned materials, writing essays, and attending one-on-one meetings with your research instructor. As the program progresses and you begin working on your capstone research project, you may need to allocate additional time for independent research and writing. The program is designed to be flexible, allowing students to manage their time according to their individual schedules, but consistent weekly effort is essential for success.

NextStage will develop students as the best researchers, essay writers, and subject matters experts possible to produce world class research papers to distinguish their college applications. However, we do not promise that any work will be published. Students will learn directly from Research Instructors who have been published, and when appropriate, NextStage will provide structured guidance on how to apply for publishing in appropriate journals.
